Parking
-- turn in at Aurora
Aviation. There will be two
large grass parking lots with room for 1500 cars.
The lots will be marked off with yellow tape and Civil Air Patrol
Cadets will direct traffic The left lot will be filled first.
Automobile parking will not be allowed on the taxiways.
If
you’re flying in, use 122.7 and announce 5 miles out. Upon landing you will be assigned a ground control frequency
and directed to parking from the CAA clubhouse ramp. We’ll fill the ramp going north
Pancake
breakfast at the Columbia Aviation Association (CAA) begins at 8am.
The club is a large building flying flags, located just to the left
of Aurora Aviation, a short walk. Enter
the clubhouse on the airport side. Prices
are $5 for adult and $3 for children.
Breakfast will run to 11am.
Take
a look at the twenty classic cars parked nearby. Then checkout the classic aircraft and warbirds.
Coffee and lattes will be available from 8am at Salt and Pepper
catering, located on the lawn of the clubhouse.
At
10am, van shuttle service begins to downtown Aurora, located just a
mile away. Aurora is a
National Historic District, filled with antique shops, restaurants and
interesting things to see. Take
a walk around town, check out the park, city hall and the police station,
take a look at the antique jail (from the outside)
Step back into the late 1800s Aurora architecture.
Then visit the Aurora Colony Museum.
It’s a treasure of artifacts and history from the commune
community that lived in Aurora in the last part of the 19th
century. The van will be
running all day, courtesy of the Clarion
Airport Inn.
Check
out the new airplanes at the airport.
Cessna will have new models on display, provided by Bill
Hollenbeck of Hillsboro
Aviation . New Piper
Aircraft Company will be showing several new models. Sit in the
planes and feel the sky.

Douglas L. Jones of the 1042nd Oregon Army National Guard Medical Company
Air Ambulance will be bringing a UH-60L Blackhawk helicopter and
crew to Airport Days.
Watch
retired United airline captain Sam Richardson fly his Reno-racing 375
MPH Yak-11, and view his beautifully restored Stearman WWII trainer.
The
warbird area will feature a B-25, an FM-2 Wilcat and several other
WWII aircraft organized by Jack
Lenhardt, noted aircraft restorer.
AURORA
AVIATION will provide airplane rides into
the local sky. Cost is just $50 for a half hour scenic flight. Flight instructors will available to answer all of your questions about
Aurora Aviation and its flight school. If you've ever dreamed about
learning to fly, this is your opportunity to begin following that
dream. Students, take your first introductory flight for only $35
for a 25 minute hop. Try out the controls, fly like a bird!
See

Avionics.
Check
out the Columbia Helicopter booth to
learn about how this 600 employee company serves from the world from its
Aurora Airport location.
Stop
by the AngelFlight booth and
learn how this wonderful organization helps people in need of
non-emergency medical transportation. Maybe you know someone who
needs their totally free volunteer services. Or, maybe you are
interested in working with AngelFlight as a mission pilot or ground
support person.
Many
of the new kitbuilt high-performance aircraft will be in attendance and
Lancair may fly one of their Columbia 300 models in from Bend.
Check
out the Aurora Fire Department display with all their equipment
mustered for their annual outing. They
respond to fires in the area as well as provide emergency service to
automobile accidents. Better
to meet them here than on Highway 5.
Lunch.
By 11:30 you may be hungry, so Salt and Pepper Catering on the clubhouse
lawn will fire up the barbeque and serve sausages, hotdogs, hamburgers
plus an array of beverages. Prices
are very affordable, with a typical food item priced in the $2.50 range. They will also have a limited supply of their famous Rib dinners for
those who get in line early. Salt and Pepper Catering will have tables with
umbrellas and chairs spread across the lawn, so select a scrumptious lunch, sit back and enjoy
the view of the aircraft operations.
During
the day, two Portland Air Force Reserve F-15 jets will do a low fly-by.
If you don’t see them, you’ll hear them!
This will be exciting. Compare
these to the classic B-25 bomber parked on the ramp.
Times have changed! Look
for this fly-by to take place around 10am.
About
12:30, the field will be closed for a performance by Renny Price in his
Sukhoi SU-29 aerobatic
aircraft. This is an
event will not want to miss. All
people must stay back beyond the line and traffic on the
Wilsonville-Hubbard highway will be diverted.
The show will last 15 minutes and will be full of action, so pe
prepared to drop what you’re doing and take a look at this wonderful
performance in the sky. Renny
is an airline pilot and an active aerobatic performer based
at Aurora. He is also
the Airport Day 2000 Air Boss.
For
arriving and departing pilots, the Aurora frequency of 122.7 will
be used and you will be assigned a ground control frequency. Do not taxi
in any public areas unless you have two wing-walkers to provide positive
separation between you and spectators. Park your aircraft in front of the
CAA club and to the north, up to the grass areas.
There
will be officials in Aurora Airport Day 2000 yellow shirts that can
help with any questions you may have.
Messages may be taken to the announcer both for lost and found,
special notes, etc.
Public
address and announcing is by Tim Brownhill, Double
"B" Sound. The
announcer will provide information on all events and will keep you
informed as to what attractions they are on the field.
